Macbook M5

Last time I wrote about my laptop, I explained how I hadn’t bought a new computer in ten years. Everything was fine. Really.

Three months later, I bought a new laptop.

IN MY DEFENSE I also panic researched.

The 2015 MacBook was still doing exactly what I asked it to do:

  • maintaining my websites
  • running my aquarium livestream
  • editing images
  • helping me build things

The Limitation

A few years ago, my wife gifted me a DJ controller. A 2015 MacBook was not exactly the ideal machine for adding DJ software.

So I didn’t use it. It sat there for two years.

But it wasn’t just the controller. Life also happened.

Family stuff. Career stuff. The economy changed. The entire world was on fire, basically. You know, the usual.

Replacing a laptop was not exactly at the top of my list.

AI Happened

I had already been window shopping for months. Then the conversation around AI hardware started changing.

More people needed more powerful machines. Components were getting more expensive. Then Apple raised their prices. During Prime Day.

It was time.

The Purchase

I ended up buying a MacBook Air with an M5 chip.

The old MacBook isn’t retired just yet. She’s on modified work duty. Her only job now is streaming the aquariums.

What’s next?

Installing everything. More on that next.
